Q: Do I have to rent the entire property (Cottage, trailer and bunkhouse)?
A: Not during the months of April, May, June, Sept, Oct and Nov. All 3 must be rented together July and August.
Q: How do I make a reservation?
A: To reserve our cottage, please contact us by email. If the cottage is available, we will send you a rental agreement. Once we receive your etransfer or cheque and completed rental agreement, we will review the information provided and will advise you if your reservation is confirmed. If someone else is also interested in the same time frame, the first down payment/rental agreement we receive will get the reservation.
Q: Do cell phones work at the cottage?
A: We installed a cell phone booster June 2014, all cell phones now work at the cottage
Q: Is there a minimum # of nights I need to book?
A: Yes, there is a minimum of 2 nights stay.
Q:Can you tell me the breakdown of beds/bedrooms?
A: The cottage has 3 bedrooms, room #1 has a queen bed, room #2 has a bunk bed, double on bottom and s single on top, room #3 has a double bed. There is a single rollout cot and a sofa bed.
The trailer has 2 singles in the back bedroom and a queen futon and a double futon in front bedroom and a sofabed in the gazebo. The bunkhouse has 2 bunk beds, both have doubles on the bottom and singles on top.
Q: Do you have internet?
A: Yes, We have Internet (unlimited GB).
Q: What do I do if an unexpected problem arises?
A: You will have access to us 24/7, our cell #'s will be found on the fridge, in the welcome manual and on your rental agreement. We will address any issues or problems as soon as possible.
Q: If I decide not to rent the trailer or bunkhouse, will you rent it out to anyone else?
A: Absolutely not. The only people that can rent the trailer and bunkhouse is you! The trailer and bunkhouse are perfect for another family you'd like to vacation with or to have available for your guests.
Q: Is the trailer well equipped?
A: Yes, the trailer has electricity, water, air conditioner, fridge/freezer, bathroom, sink, pillows and blankets.
Q: Can you tell me about the bunkhouse?
A: The bunkhouse was built in Fall 2012. it is 100 square feet and comes with 2 bunk beds. The beds are doubles on the bottom and singles on top. The bunkhouse has electricity and a ceiling light. Each bed has its own reading light. There is a privacy curtain to separate the beds. It is fully insulated, drywalled and has hardwood flooring. **Bunkhouse Bonus **, If you rent the cottage and trailer, you can rent the bunkhouse for 50% off!
Q: How do we get in when we arrive?
A: We always strive to be there when you arrive, however, when that is not possible there is a lock box on the door, your rental agreement will come with a 4 digit code. (codes are changed weekly)
Q: Where can I smoke?
A: There is no smoking in any building except for the screened gazebo. You can smoke anywhere outside.
Q: How private is the cottage?
A: We have neighbours to the right and left. The neighbours on the right hand side cannot even be seen from our cottage, the neighbours to the left are closer, they are about 75 feet away, however, there is a large solid wood privacy fence separating the 2 lots.
Q: Do we need to bring our own life jackets?
A: We have a large supply of life jackets from toddler to adult, free of charge.
Q: If I break or damage something, will you use my $500 damage deposit cheque?
A: If there is damage done or if something is broken, you need to let us know. If the broken item is due to normal wear and tear, we will not charge you. We will contact you before using the damage deposit cheque.
Q: How safe is the water for my kids?
A: The sand beach is shallow, weed free, you'd have to walk out approx. 150 feet to reach a depth of 5 feet. The water depth at the end of the 36' boat dock is typically around 1.5-2 feet deep. There are NO drop offs whatsoever. As far as safety goes, this is very safe for kids provided they are being properly supervised.
Q:How much drinking water is provided?
A: We supply 3 large 19 litre bottles + whatever is leftover in the dispenser. If you run out, bottles can be exchanged at Canadian Tire in Perth.
Q: Is the water warm?
A: Because our beach is shallow and has full sun exposure, it is typically on the warmer side.
Q: Where can I fish from?
A: We supply you with a canoe, kayak and pedal boat. The most stable is the pedal boat. We also have a swimming dock anchored about 200 feet from shore, this is a good fishing spot for Perch, Bass and Sunfish. If you want to do some serious fishing, your best bet is to use a motorboat (we have 2 for rent).
Q: How deep is Dalhousie Lake?
A: Dalhousie Lake's mean depth is 12 feet, it's deepest spot is 50 feet. We have a depth chart of the lake on our wall in bedroom #1.
Q: I don't know much about Dalhousie Lake, what else can you tell me about it?
A: Dalhousie Lake is approx. 5km wide and 1 km across. Dalhousie Lake feeds directly into Mississippi Lake. You can get to Sylvania Lodge Restaurant and a golf course by boat, these are all located on the Eastern shore of Dalhousie Lake approx 2km from the cottage.
Q: Is there firewood?
A: Yes, as a matter of fact, you get a large lot of firewood free with your rental. We do also sell additional wood if you happen to use all of your free supply. Our wood is mostly hardwood and is dry. Our wood is stored on a wood stand that has a roof on it.
Q: What kind of wildlife can I expect to see?
A: Rabbits, Deer, Chipmunks, Loons and ducks are often seen. To date we have never seen (or had problems with) skunks but have had a friendly raccoon or 4.
Q: I'm not too handy, what if I have to turn on the propane furnace or change a BBQ propane tank etc......
A: No problem, in the cottage is a yellow binder called the welcome manual. This manual will give you step by step instructions on any technical thing in or around the cottage. This welcome manual is also an introduction to the cottage if we are unable to greet you on arrival. If all else fails, WE will come up to fix the issue.
Q: Are there any golf courses close by?
A: There are 3 courses to choose from within 15 minutes. Dalhousie Glen is a 9 hole course. Situated right around the corner, a five minute drive by car, or a 5 minute boat ride. That's right, it's on the Lake's Eastern shore www.sylvanialodge.com. Blue Heron Golf course is a 9 hole course and is 10 minutes to the East right on the main highway www.blueherongolfing.com. Timber Run golf course is 15 minutes to the East in Lanark, this is an 18 hole course. www.timberrungolfclub.com
Q: What is there to do if we get a rainy day?
A: There is a huge assortment of board games and a library of books (kids and adults). There is a TV with Bell satellite, as well as a DVD/VCR combo. We have a ton of DVD's and VHS movies. The town of Perth has every store you'd need.
Q: What is there to do or see in Perth?
A: Perth is a beautiful old town that has a hospital with an Emergency dept., shopping, restaurants and tons of tourist attractions 25 minutes away from the cottage, there is too much to list, go to www.beautifulperth.com for more info.
Q: Where can I go for groceries, LCBO, restaurants etc...?
A: McDonalds corners is 5 minutes by car, There is a convenience store that sells basic groceries and has a post office. Lanark is 15 minutes away, this has your closest LCBO, has a small grocery store, a few restaurants and a few other stores. Balderson is 20 minutes away, this is the home of the popular Balderson cheese factory. This is open to the public, they sell dairy products and has a restaurant. Perth is 25 minutes away and has everything you'd need.
Q: where are the closest restaurants/takeout?
A: Sylvania Lodge restaurant is 5 minutes away (family style restaurant) www.sylvanialodge.com, Wheeler's Pancake house is 10 minutes to the East (between Lanark and McDonalds Corners) and is open for Breakfast from 9am to 5pm. www.wheelersmaple.com. Lanark is 15 minutes to the East and has a few restaurants. Lanark Pizza, Mal's Restaurant, Sunny Shenanigans and the Crossroads tea room.
Q: Where is the white water (kids hiking along the water) filmed in your 2nd youtube video in "virtual tour"?
A: This is located on the Western shore, this is easy to find, get in the boat and go West, when you reach the end of the Lake approx. 3 km away, you'll find a bridge. Tie your boat well off to the side of the bridge. Make sure you are wearing something on your feet and make sure you are wearing a personal flotation device. Head under the bridge, you're on your way. I don't recommend this for kids less than 8.
